How long do I need to wait after shaving?

The more hair, the better!  For the best result, I recommend 3-4 weeks without shaving or using other hair removal products.  Our hair naturally grows in three different growth cycles, each cycle taking anywhere from a week to a week and a half to come to the surface of the skin.  Ideally, we want every hair surfaced to make sure we are waxing as much hair as possible.  This will leave you smooth and hairless for a longer time.

How long will it last?

This completely depends on your hair growth cycles and how long it has been since your last shave.  I will always examine the area before your first wax and let you know what you can expect.  If the hair is too short or hasn't completely surfaced I will recommend rescheduling to get a better result.  After a few consecutive waxes under your belt, you should see 2-4 weeks without hair.  The hair will then come back very slowly and much more thin and sparse.

How often will I need to wax?

Every 4-6 weeks, depending on your hair growth.  No shaving in between waxes!!

What is the difference between a bikini wax and a brazilian wax?

A brazilian wax is the complete removal of hair in the pubic region, the labia and the butt crack.  You will have the option of going completely bare or leaving a small patch of hair in the shape of a strip or an upside down triangle above the vaginal area.  A bikini wax traditionally removes only the hair on the inner thigh area and a little hair above the pubic bone.  It is very common to want something in between a bikini wax and a brazilian wax.  If this sounds like you, just inform me of how much or how little hair you wanted taken off during our initial consultation and we will customize your service to your liking.

Will it hurt?

Your first wax will be the most painful because that hair has never been removed.  As you continue waxing routinely (without shaving in between!),  the procedure becomes much more easy!  The worst part of waxing is the anticipation.  By the end of the service, the most common response from first-timers is "that wasn't as bad as I thought!"

Will I be uncomfortable after my wax?

You may experience a little sensitivity after a wax that is comparable to a mild sunburn.  If you are a little tender to the touch, an anti-inflammatory (such as ibuprofen) will help this feeling.

Can I get a brazilian while I am on my menstrual cycle?

Absolutely!  Just come in with a clean tampon.  Be advised, due to fluctuating hormone levels, the week before and the week during your cycle are when you tend to be most sensitive.

Can I wax while I am pregnant?

Yes!  In fact, a brazilian wax is a great solution when the baby bump blocks your view and you can no longer perform other methods of hair removal.  Pregnant women can experience a little extra sensitivity because of the extra blood flow, but it is well worth it!

Are there any contraindications to waxing?

Certain oral drugs like blood thinners and topical medications such as Accutane, Retin-A, Differin and Retinol can cause serious problems when waxing.  Clients using such prescriptions and medications may not be waxed and must wait the recommended amount of time (consult your doctor or dermatologist) before considering wax treatments.

Do not wax sunburned skin.  You will also want to avoid immediate sun exposure after a wax.
